Television host and producer Ryan Seacrest is mourning the death of his beloved father, Gary Seacrest, whom he called his “best friend.”

In an emotional social media post, Ryan shared that Gary passed away earlier this week in Atlanta, where Ryan grew up and where his parents had lived for many years.

“I was by his bedside as he left us,” Ryan wrote. “My mother was by his bedside. My sister, we held his hand.”

Gary Seacrest, a real estate lawyer, had long been a steady source of love and support in Ryan’s life. The American Idol host said that while he, his mother, and his sister are “heartbroken,” they have found some peace in knowing Gary is now “in a better place and free of any pain or suffering.”

During a segment earlier this year, Ryan had spoken candidly about his father’s battle with cancer, which he had fought for years. “They went to the beach just to sit outside and look at the water,” Ryan recalled. “To see him getting stronger — I was so happy. I asked him what he wanted for his birthday, and of course, he said, ‘I just want to get out of this chair. I just want to leave this house.’

Ryan has often credited his father for shaping his character and work ethic. On Father’s Day, he wrote:

“Happy Father’s Day to the man who shaped who I am, who taught me how to work hard and stay grounded. Love you, Dad.”

Gary and his wife Connie, married for more than 55 years, were a constant presence in Ryan’s life and career. They proudly attended his Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony and were often by his side during major milestones — including his emotional farewell to Live with Kelly and Ryan in 2023.

“I have to give them a massive shoutout,” Ryan said at the time. “My mom, Connie; Dad, Gary; my sister, Meredith — I love you very much. You are the most important part of my life.”
