The All’s Fair premiere in Los Angeles turned unexpectedly emotional when actress Sarah Paulson teared up while speaking about the sudden passing of Diane Keaton — her dear friend and one of Hollywood’s most beloved legends.
From the moment Paulson arrived on the red carpet, all eyes were on her. Dressed in a stunning Balenciaga gown “straight off the Paris runway,” she described the joy of wearing a design by Louise Trotter, saying it felt especially meaningful to don such a powerful look at a premiere celebrating “beautiful, strong women.”
During the interview, Paulson shared a behind-the-scenes moment from filming All’s Fair: one scene reportedly took 30 takes, and she cried in every single one. When asked how she managed to summon such emotion repeatedly, Paulson smiled softly and said,
“My character is humiliated, and when you’re humiliated, something deep inside of you cracks open. She’s someone who’s always on the outside, desperate to be seen. That desperation is what drives her—and what makes her cry.”
She also recalled an unforgettable evening spent watching “Fatal Attraction” with Glenn Close and Kim Kardashian, laughing as she remembered Kim snapping photos of Glenn’s wardrobe “for Skims inspiration.”
“Kim’s brain is like a giant sponge—always working. Meanwhile, I was studying Glenn’s acting choices, every movement, every decision. Glenn would jump in and say, ‘Oh, that was the day I had a margarita before shooting that scene!’ It was like having a front-row seat to the greatest acting class in the world.”
But the conversation took a somber turn when the interviewer mentioned Diane Keaton’s passing. Paulson paused, visibly emotional, before speaking through tears:
“Diane was a very dear friend of mine… I can’t really talk about it yet. But what I can say—and what I’ve been saying tonight—is that if you thought she was extraordinary as a performer, she was even more extraordinary as a human being. I was the luckiest person in the world to have her in my life.”
Her voice broke as she looked down, smiling faintly through tears — a quiet, heartbreaking moment that seemed to still the entire red carpet.

Diane Keaton’s legacy goes far beyond her iconic films. To Sarah Paulson, she was not just a Hollywood inspiration, but a personal anchor, a source of warmth and wisdom. And in that fleeting, fragile moment, under the flash of cameras and glitter of gowns, Paulson’s grief became a beautiful testament to love, loss, and the enduring power of friendship.
