On the October 22 episode of Call Her Daddy with Alex Cooper, Victoria Beckham — the former Spice Girls icon turned fashion mogul — sat down for a rare and emotional interview. For the first time, she opened up about her struggles with body image, her mental health, and the resilience that has defined her 26-year marriage to David Beckham.
“One minute I was ‘porky posh,’ the next I was ‘skinny posh.’ It really messes with your head,” Victoria recalled. “You lose all sense of reality. It consumes you — it’s exhausting.”
Battling an Eating Disorder
Victoria revealed that her complicated relationship with food began at a young age and worsened during the height of the Spice Girls era. The ‘90s obsession with “fat-free everything” left her terrified to eat normally.
“I remember walking around the supermarket knowing the calorie and fat count of everything,” she said. “I was terrified of eating fat. It became a complete obsession.”
For years, she kept her struggles private — until she confided in her husband.
“David always knew I was disciplined about how I ate,” she explained. “He helped me change that. I used to do endless cardio because I just wanted to burn, burn, burn. He encouraged me to lift weights instead. He helped me turn an unhealthy obsession into a healthy lifestyle.”
Now, she says, it’s all about balance. “I’m disciplined, but I’m healthy — and that’s a big difference.”

Talking to Her Daughter Harper
As a mother of four, Victoria says her youngest child, Harper, has inspired her to speak openly about these topics. Before the family’s Netflix documentary aired, she sat down with her 14-year-old daughter to discuss her past.
“When you have an eating disorder, you’re miserable. It’s sad, it’s lonely, and it takes over,” she said. “For many years, I was there physically but not really present. I told Harper that it’s important to talk about it — to not let it stay in the dark.”
Riding the Storm: 26 Years with David Beckham
This year, the Beckhams celebrated their 26th wedding anniversary — a milestone Victoria admits many doubted they’d ever reach.
“We’ve had so much thrown at us,” she said. “But we’ve always stood together and just ridden the damn storm.”
The storm she referred to includes the infamous 2004 allegations that David had an affair with former nanny Rebecca Loos — rumors that once shook the couple’s public image. While Victoria didn’t dwell on the details, she emphasized that their bond only grew stronger.
In his 2023 Netflix documentary, David also reflected on that painful chapter:
“It was the first time we were put under that kind of pressure. Every day, it felt like something new. We both felt like we were drowning,” he admitted. “But we’re fighters. We had to fight for each other — and for our family.”
Love, Laughter, and Designer Handbags
Despite the heavy moments, Victoria’s signature wit lit up the podcast. When asked about her and David’s love languages, she laughed:
“David’s love language is gifts — which is why I have so many handbags,” she joked. “Mine is words of affirmation. So he gives me presents, and I tell him he’s great. It works perfectly!”
She also revealed one of her husband’s less glamorous habits:
“He snores! He told me wearing earplugs isn’t sexy. I said, ‘You think I’m trying to look sexy in bed? No, I’m wearing them because you snore!’”
The Beckham Kids and Family Bonds
Talking about her children, Victoria couldn’t help but tease her son Cruz, who’s following in her musical footsteps.
“I told him, ‘Sweetie, do you want Mom on your track? Remember, 100 million albums, Spice up your life!’” she laughed. “And he’s like, ‘Mom, please leave me alone.’”
Her three sons — Brooklyn, Romeo, and Cruz — are fiercely protective of their little sister Harper.

“When she starts dating, they’re all going to tag along,” Victoria joked. “But Harper can hold her own. She’s smart, funny, and definitely got my personality — though she looks just like David.”
The Real Victoria Beckham
At 51, Victoria Beckham has shed the icy “Posh Spice” persona and revealed a softer, wiser side — one that balances humor, honesty, and strength.
“We’ve been through everything together,” she said, smiling. “And that’s exactly why our love is still here — stronger than ever.”
