Zohran Mamdani has officially made history — and the reactions are pouring in from Hollywood, politics, and beyond.

The 34-year-old Democratic Socialist won New York City’s mayoral race on November 4th, defeating several high-profile candidates, including former Governor Andrew Cuomo, to become the first Muslim and youngest NYC mayor in over a century.

The victory sparked a nationwide conversation, with supporters celebrating the milestone and critics voicing concern about the city’s political future.

On The View, Whoopi Goldberg praised the historic moment but reminded viewers of the importance of civic accountability.

“January will begin everybody’s term,” Goldberg said. “Hopefully, they won’t win and then stop listening. We must remind every leader what their job is — why we voted for them — and when it’s not happening, it’s our right to speak up.”

Celebrities who had backed Mamdani’s campaign — including Mark Ruffalo, Lupita Nyong’o, Rachel Zegler, Lauren Jauregui, Chelsea Handler, Spike Lee, and Emily Ratajkowski — flooded social media with celebratory posts following his win.

Not everyone shared the excitement, though. 50 Cent made his disapproval known by posting a meme of a tombstone reading “RIP NYC” alongside Mamdani’s victory speech, writing, “NYC finished.”

Meanwhile, Donald Trump reacted on Truth Social, suggesting that Republican candidates may have underperformed because he “wasn’t on the ballot.”

Mamdani’s rise has been swift — his popularity soared after a surprise primary victory in the summer, followed by a viral Saturday Night Live parody featuring Ramy Youssef. The comedian later FaceTimed the real Mamdani to show off his costume, complete with matching tie, jewelry, and even the mayor’s trademark smile.

“I got the red bracelet, the rings — and your smile!” Youssef joked.
“Oh my god, dude,” Mamdani laughed. “This is wild. I can’t wait to see it.”
