Breaking News: Golden State Warriors Superstar Stephen Curry Invests $3 Million to Transform House into Shelter for Homeless Youths in San Francisco

In an inspiring act of compassion and community leadership, Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry has invested $3 million of his own money to transform a large, unused Victorian house in the heart of San Francisco into a state-of-the-art shelter for homeless youths.

The initiative, announced early Friday morning, comes after Curry visited a local outreach program last year and met several young people experiencing homelessness. Deeply moved by their stories and the staggering number of displaced teens in the Bay Area, Curry pledged to take action—and now, he’s following through.

The newly transformed shelter, which Curry has named “The Beacon House,” is located in the Mission District and is set to open its doors in late June. It will provide temporary housing, counseling, job training, education support, and wellness services for up to 50 youths aged 14 to 24 at a time. The project is a collaboration between Curry’s foundation, Eat. Learn. Play., and local nonprofit HomeStart SF.

“This isn’t just about giving people a roof over their heads,” Curry said during the press conference. “It’s about creating a space where these young people can feel safe, valued, and empowered to build a future.”

Renovations on the 12-bedroom house began late last year, and the final touches are being made. The home features shared and private living spaces, a media and recreation room, communal kitchen, garden, and even a tech lab funded with help from several of Curry’s Silicon Valley partners.

Bay Area officials and community leaders have applauded the move. Mayor London Breed praised Curry, saying, “This is the kind of leadership our city needs—compassion in action. Stephen isn’t just changing lives, he’s setting an example.”

One young woman, Alina, 19, who had been living on the streets before entering a pilot program linked to The Beacon House, tearfully thanked Curry during the event. “He saw us, not as statistics, but as people,” she said. “This place saved me.”

Curry has long been known for his philanthropy and community activism, but this marks one of his most direct and personal investments yet. He emphasized that this is just the beginning.

“My hope is that The Beacon House becomes a model,” Curry said. “A spark that inspires more shelters, more safe spaces, and more love for our youth who need it the most.”

As the Warriors push toward another playoff run, Curry is proving that his impact off the court might be just as powerful as his game-winning three-pointers.
