The NFL Draft always brings surprises, but few expected this one.

As teams worked through the second and third rounds Friday night, fans and players alike watched in disbelief as Shedeur Sanders remained undrafted. One of those viewers was Kansas City Chiefs superstar Patrick Mahomes, who summed up the stunning development with a single word: “Crazy.”

Mahomes, never one to jump into social media drama without reason, let his feelings be known as three more quarterbacks heard their names called while Sanders continued to wait. The moment captured the shared confusion swirling around the football world, from living rooms packed with fans to veterans inside the league.

Only two quarterbacks, Cam Ward and Jaxson Dart, went off the board during Thursday’s first round. Many believed the Pittsburgh Steelers would snag Sanders with the 21st overall pick, but they passed. Hopes stayed alive entering Day 2, but the surprises kept coming.

The New Orleans Saints grabbed Tyler Shough with the 40th overall pick. Later, the Seattle Seahawks selected Jalen Milroe with the 92nd pick, and the Cleveland Browns followed shortly after by choosing Dillon Gabriel at 94. Sanders, once thought to be a surefire early-round pick, remained on the board heading into Saturday.

Mahomes’ one-word tweet, simple yet sharp, captured what so many were thinking. Fans immediately jumped into the conversation, echoing his reaction.

One user wrote, “You know it’s crazy when the Best QB in the League has to comment on it!”

Another added, “You know it’s bad when the baby goat is saying something.”

Despite the draft-night disappointment, Sanders showed nothing but grace in addressing the situation. “I don’t feel like this happened for no reason,” Sanders said. “All this is of course fuel to the fire. Under no circumstance – we all know this shouldn’t have happened. But we understand, we’re on to bigger and better things. Tomorrow’s the day. We’re going to be happy regardless.”

The final rounds on Saturday could offer Sanders the chance he deserves. If he remains undrafted, it would go down as one of the most shocking moments in NFL Draft history. For now, the football world watches and waits, just like Mahomes.
