Tom Jones Keeps the Music Alive: Arrives in Brisbane Ahead of Byron Bay BluesFest
Sir Tom Jones continues to prove that age is no barrier when it comes to passion for music. The 85-year-old icon touched down in Brisbane on Saturday, preparing to take the stage at the Byron Bay Blues Festival, one of Australia’s most celebrated music events that draws more than 100,000 fans each year.
A Living Legend on Tour
Despite his age, Tom Jones shows no signs of slowing down. The legendary performer is currently touring across Australia, delighting fans with his timeless hits and powerful voice. Dressed casually in a black checked flannel shirt, jeans, and a baseball cap, Tom was spotted walking through the airport terminal. Though he appeared a little weary from travel, he also sported a healthy tan, proof that he’s been enjoying the Australian sunshine.
Earlier this week, the “Sex Bomb” singer performed in Perth, and now he is gearing up for several more shows. His tour schedule includes A Day On The Green in New South Wales, followed by concerts in Adelaide and Melbourne, before wrapping up with a grand finale at Sydney’s Aware Super Theatre on April 4.
No Plans to Retire
Last year, Tom made it clear that retirement isn’t on his mind. While he admits he can’t move around the stage like he once did, his voice remains as strong and commanding as ever. “The only way I would retire is if I couldn’t sing anymore,” Tom told Metro. “If something went wrong with my vocal ability, I wouldn’t want to shortchange an audience.”
After undergoing two hip replacement surgeries—the first in 2017 and the second in 2022—Tom has adapted his live performances. He now performs many of his songs seated, saving his energy for the vocal delivery that continues to captivate audiences worldwide. “Being old, you can’t do what you used to do. But now, I focus more on the singing, which is what matters most.”
Looking Toward the Future
Tom even joked about the possibility of being replaced by a hologram in the distant future, though he emphasized that he hopes that time is “nowhere near.” For now, fans are grateful that the Welsh superstar is still able to bring his iconic voice to the stage—proving that true artistry never fades with age.
A Career That Inspires Generations
From his early hits like It’s Not Unusual to his electrifying live performances of Delilah, Tom Jones remains one of music’s greatest entertainers. His current Australian tour is more than just a series of concerts—it’s a celebration of resilience, passion, and an undying love for music. And as long as his voice holds strong, Sir Tom shows no signs of stepping away from the spotlight.
