Why Erika Kirk Was Praying to Be Pregnant After Charlie Kirk Was Killed

Erika Kirk is opening up about the painful, intimate hopes she carried in the days surrounding the assassination of her husband, Charlie Kirk, the Turning Point USA CEO who was fatally shot in September.

In a deeply emotional interview shared on Megyn Kelly’s SiriusXM channel on November 24, Erika revealed that she had been praying to be pregnant with their third child when Charlie was killed — a hope born both from grief and from the future they had always imagined together.

“How many kids did you guys want?” Kelly asked.

“We wanted four,” Erika replied softly.

Then came her heartbreaking admission.

“I was praying to God that I was pregnant when he got murdered.
I thought… that would be the ultimate blessing out of this catastrophe.”

Erika and Charlie already share two young children: a three-year-old daughter and a one-year-old son. She said the couple had been excited to grow their family, and losing Charlie pushed her to encourage young couples not to delay their dreams of having children.

“When I see young couples, I tell them: don’t put it off.
You can always have a career.
You can’t always go back and have children.”

She reflected on how quickly children grow, how fleeting early parenthood is, and how she and Charlie had been “really excited to expand” their family before tragedy struck.

Despite her grief, Erika shared profound gratitude for the two children they did have — and described how she keeps Charlie’s memory alive for them through her faith.

“We talk about heaven. I make it really exciting,” she said.
“I tell them Daddy is telling all his friends to send gifts and letters…
Daddy is orchestrating from heaven to make sure they always feel loved.”

She recalled a moment when her daughter looked up at her and asked:

“Tell me about Daddy’s day in heaven.”

Charlie’s death shook the political world. The 31-year-old conservative activist was killed during a speaking event at Utah Valley University while debating students on his America Comeback Tour. A polarizing figure, Charlie inspired both passionate support and intense criticism for his rhetoric and influence.

For Erika, beyond the headlines and controversies, the loss is devastatingly personal — the loss of a husband, a father, and the future family they dreamed of building together.
