The “Brutal” Report on Kash Patel: The Truth Behind Miranda Devine’s NY Post Article
Recently, The New York Post journalist Miranda Devine published an article sharply criticizing FBI Director Kash Patel, with the eye-catching headline: “Damning report labels the FBI under Kash Patel as a rudderless ship, with him and Dan Bonino more concerned with building personal resumes.” The article is based on a 115 report, prepared by the National Alliance of Retired and Active Duty FBI Special Agents, assessing Patel’s first six months in office for the U.S. Senate and House Judiciary Committees.

However, the origin and official status of the report remain unclear. Megyn Kelly, analyzing the situation, expressed skepticism: it is not certain whether the report was formally requested by Congress or if it is simply the opinions of disgruntled former FBI personnel. Regardless, the report is highly critical of Patel, focusing particularly on what it describes as his vanity.

One notable story in the report involves Patel traveling to a Charlie Kirk–staged FBI operation. According to the report, Patel insisted on having an FBI jacket with Velcro patches in place before disembarking from the plane. FBI agents at the Salt Lake City field office had to remove patches from their own uniforms to accommodate Patel before he would step off the aircraft. If true, this incident paints a negative and highly memorable image of Patel’s leadership.
Megyn Kelly and Mark Halperin both describe the report as “semi-official”—detailed and rigorous, but not an official FBI document. They also highlight that the story being published via Miranda Devine, while major outlets like The Washington Post and The New York Times largely ignored it, makes the situation puzzling.

Additionally, the report and article reveal internal divisions within the Republican Party. Some GOP members, even Trump supporters, are reportedly unhappy with Kash Patel. Kelly notes that leaks like this often come from former Bush-era officials or other conservative-aligned figures, aiming to influence personnel decisions within the Trump administration.

This article also raises broader questions about political and legal impacts of internal criticism. Against the backdrop of debates over U.S. attorney appointments and court decisions related to Trump, stories like the one about Patel reflect the complexity of interactions between the media, government, and party insiders.

In summary, the Kash Patel report draws attention not only because of details about his leadership style but also because of the ambiguity of its official status and the motives of those leaking it. It reflects internal tensions within the FBI and the Republican Party and illustrates how different media outlets can shape public perception of high-ranking officials.
