Keanu Reeves has worn many hats throughout his decades-long career — from action hero to romantic lead, from sci-fi visionary to fan-favorite assassin. Now, the Hollywood icon is adding a new title to his résumé: comic book creator.
Reeves recently sat down to talk about BRZRKR, his original graphic novel developed with Boom! Studios. The project has been in the works since 2017, when Reeves first imagined a warrior locked in a violent frenzy, a character “born 80,000 years ago, half-human, half-god, cursed with an impulse to violence.”
The actor recalled how the concept evolved after meeting with Boom! Studios:
“I pitched the idea and they said, ‘Have you ever thought of making it a comic book?’ I said no. Then they asked, ‘Would you like to?’ and I said, ‘Yes, please.’”
From there, a creative “super team” came together, including writer Matt Kindt, illustrator Ron Garney, colorist Bill Crabtree, and letterer Clem Robbins. Their combined efforts have produced a visually striking and deeply philosophical series that explores not only epic battles across history, but also the inner struggles of a man burdened by his violent nature.
Netflix Brings BRZRKR to Life
The project has already leapt beyond the page. Netflix is developing BRZRKR into both a live-action film and an anime series, with Reeves set to star. The actor expressed gratitude and excitement about the adaptation:
“It’s an extraordinary opportunity. I think it’s a story for our times but also for all times — who we are, how we are. To be able to tell it in different forms, through anime or live action, is thrilling.”
Revisiting The Matrix
Reeves also reflected on his return to one of his most iconic roles in The Matrix Resurrections. Nearly two decades after the last film, he described the project as “a beautiful film, a love story, full of action and ideas.” Directed by Lana Wachowski, the film continues to explore timeless questions about identity, reality, and human potential.
Back in the Suit for John Wick 4
If that weren’t enough, Reeves is also deep into filming John Wick: Chapter 4. Known for its intense choreography and relentless action, the franchise continues to raise the stakes. Reeves teased “new characters, expanded world-building, and a crazy fight scene in the middle of traffic with car crashes and gunfights.”
A Relentless Creative Force
Whether through comics, anime, or blockbuster cinema, Reeves shows no signs of slowing down. From Neo to John Wick to the immortal warrior of BRZRKR, his career reflects both artistic versatility and a dedication to stories that challenge, excite, and inspire.
BRZRKR was officially released on October 5 and is already generating buzz among fans of comics, action, and Reeves himself.
